The Story Behind Street University C.M.C.D.
The Story
Behind Street University C.M.C.D.
Every person is trying to build a better future.
Yet despite those aspirations, we can sometimes find ourselves moving farther away from the future we’re trying to create instead of closer to it.
Whether they’re young people preparing for adulthood, emerging adults finding direction, or individuals rebuilding their lives after incarceration, the people we serve are often trying to answer life’s biggest questions with the understanding they have at the time.
The answers they come to—and the beliefs they develop along the way—shape the decisions they make and, ultimately, the life they experience.
When those decisions continue leading to situations they never planned for or wanted, it naturally raises two important questions.
How did this happen to me?
Why do I keep ending up in the same situations?
Those questions became the beginning of Street University C.M.C.D.
Who should I listen to?
How do I earn respect?
How do I solve the problems I’m facing?
How do I avoid repeating the same mistakes?
Looking beyond the
outcome.
While it’s easy to recognize an unwanted outcome after it happens, it’s much harder to understand what produced it. Doing so requires looking beyond the outcome itself and understanding the relationship between our mindset, the decisions we make, the actions we take, and the outcomes we experience.
Street University C.M.C.D. began with a simple belief: If we want to create different outcomes, we first have to understand what produces them.
Every outcome has a beginning.
Street University C.M.C.D. began with a simple belief:
Before an outcome ever becomes visible, decisions have already been made. Those decisions are influenced by the way we think, the experiences we’ve had, the examples we’ve seen, and the people who have influenced us throughout life.
As we grow, we begin developing ideas about how life works, how problems are solved, how respect is earned, what success looks like, and what it takes to build the future we hope to create.
Some of those ideas move us closer to that future. Others quietly move us farther away. The challenge is that we often don’t recognize the difference until we’re living with the outcome.
Instead of asking, “Why would someone make that decision?” Street University asks a different question:
“What made that decision make sense to them at the time?”
That question changed everything.
At Street University C.M.C.D., mindset is defined as a fixed mental attitude that predetermines how we interpret and respond.
The way we interpret our experiences shapes what we come to believe. Our beliefs influence the decisions we make. Our decisions become actions. Our actions create outcomes. Those outcomes shape the life we experience.
Understanding this relationship helps explain why people can genuinely pursue meaningful goals while repeatedly producing outcomes they never intended.
Understanding this changed more than one person’s life. It changed the purpose behind Street University C.M.C.D.
Why Street University Exists
Most people are simply trying to figure life out—not make bad decisions.
People don’t all grow up with the same opportunities, influences, or examples. Some are surrounded by healthy relationships, positive role models, and stable environments. Others grow up watching addiction, violence, instability, or people simply trying to survive.
Regardless of our circumstances, we’re all trying to make sense of the world around us. Along the way, we pick up ideas about how to solve problems, build a better life, earn respect, and reach our goals. Some of those ideas help us. Others can quietly lead us in the wrong direction without us even realizing it.
Street University C.M.C.D. exists to help people better understand the thinking behind their decisions, empowering them to make choices that move them closer to the future they’re trying to create.
That is why our educational experiences focus on more than behavior.
We help youth, emerging adults, and justice-involved individuals understand the relationship between mindset, beliefs, decisions, actions, and outcomes because lasting change begins by understanding what produces our outcomes—not simply reacting to them.
For the organizations we partner with, this creates opportunities for deeper reflection, healthier decision-making, greater personal responsibility, and stronger futures for the people they serve.
The Belief That Guides Everything We Do
Everything we do is guided by one belief:
“People are more likely to change their outcomes when they first understand stronger what produces them.“
The Story
The Story Behind the Philosophy.
The philosophy behind Street University C.M.C.D. wasn’t developed overnight. It began with one person trying to understand what had happened to his life. After a series of decisions led to consequences he never wanted, the question was no longer, “How do I move on?” It became, “How did I get here, and what has to change if I want a different future?”The search for those answers became a lifelong pursuit. What started as an effort to rebuild one life gradually became a deeper understanding of how mindset, beliefs, decisions, and outcomes shape all of our lives. But along the way, something became impossible to ignore. The same questions weren’t unique to one person’s story. Young people, emerging adults, and people rebuilding their lives were often trying to answer those very same questions. They wanted better futures, but many were trying to build them with the understanding they had at the time.If these lessons could help rebuild one life, they were too valuable to keep to one life. Sharing them became a responsibility—and that responsibility became the mission of Street University C.M.C.D.
